12 Dates for Christmas

I am a police officer's wife. For those of you out there with partners in the force, you understand the long hours, the worries, and the stress this job can put on a family. Adam has been an officer since February 2013 in small town Iowa, but did not go through the Academy until the second half of 2013. He left at the start of September and finally came home, for good, in the middle of December. During that time, we also bought our first house, moved to a new town, and I started teaching in a new district. The physical separation and the mental stress of those 15 weeks put an understandable strain on our marriage, and we needed to find a way to give our relationship a boost.

Fast forward a few weeks...here I was, thrilled to have Adam back home, but completely lost as to what to buy this wonderful man for Christmas. What would show him how proud I was of him for achieving his goals, but also how much I had missed him? Somehow a PS4 game just didn't seem to cut it. With many thanks to Pinterest and the world wide web, I came up with borrowed a brilliant idea for the hub's present this year: 12 Date for Christmas.

It took some time and thinking, but I came up with 12 preplanned, prepaid dates. The plan is to have Adam open an envelope on the first of every month with a new date, and then we will choose a Date Day that will work for both of our schedules. Date Day is sacred. I'm pretty sure he was shocked when he opened his gift. I am normally terrible at making decisions, so he was pretty pumped to be off the hook in the creativity department.  I love my husband, and I cannot wait to date him all year long!
